Is it okay to wear ear plugs when driving a diesel engine vehicle to protect hearing?
Just wondering if wearing ear plugs to reduce noise levels in the cab of a diesel engine vehicle would affect ones ability to hear all other important sounds. I personally dont think it would be a problem. I wear ear plugs when running a lawn mower and I can still hear other noises around me. Are there any drivers out there that wear ear protection when driving diesel engine vehicles?

- wouldn't that be dangerous what if you got the ear plugs in while u are in the truck and a car is blow-in the horn at you i don't think you would hear it just turn the music up alittle louder
- what kind of diesel car/engine are we talking about here? 1970's lorry? Bus? or an ordinary car? I don't see the point for using ear plugs inside the ordinary diesel car...
- If you drive a lot, or for your job, I would suggest investing in a quality set like drummers use so that it dampens loud noise, but doesn't drowned out all sound. Honestly, it may be safer because without them, I bet you never hear anything but the diesel anyways.
- Absolutely. I'm a living example of a person who should have worn ear plugs while I worked loud locations in industry for 38 yrs. The worst being a high induction electricity power supply. I have permanent Tinnitus. The constant sound of a leaking air hose or high pitched sound you hear in hearing tests.
- It depends what we are talking about here. Is it a loud Deisel like a tractor or a grain truck which i dont see why you would need earpluds for an ordinary diesel. I can tell you a cabless tractor is bad for your ears. i rode on one since i was a baby and i have lost some hearing. just a word for the wise.
- I'm pretty sure it's against the law. Check with your local police of sheriff's department.
